The Indonesian Ombudsman highlighted problematic electric vehicle battery waste management on Tuesday after discovering that a number of battery wastes used to convert conventional vehicles to EVs are stored without being recycled.
“The government must develop a detailed and comprehensive regulation,” said Ombudsman member Hery Susanto in a written statement on February 14.
Hery requested that this regulation be implemented as a standard guideline for the management or recycling of electric battery waste generated by electric vehicles.
“This includes assigning duties and responsibilities to related agencies, particularly from the supervisory side, both at the central and regional levels,” he said.
What is the fate of lithium battery waste?
Our country’s low rate of lithium-ion battery waste recycling is a significant issue, with most used batteries ending up in landfills, where they cause major environmental and human health risks.
Although Indonesia has a long way to go regarding lithium-ion battery waste recycling, Eco Beringin has already discovered the solution.
Recycling lithium batteries will become more accessible in Indonesia
Eco Beringin is prepared to play a big role in our nation’s battery waste crisis, particularly as electric and hybrid vehicles become more common.
Eco Beringin, Indonesia’s top battery recycler, recycles lithium-ion and other types of batteries in state-specific facilities.
